Prepare to Pivot: You Might Not End Up Where You Started
Getting in on the ground floor at the start of a project is always exciting. A large multinational industrial manufacturer invited SMR to partner with them to place a director level security position in the United Kingdom. Their corporate headquarters is located in the United States, but they initially felt the strongest need for the role was on an international basis.
SMR worked with them to refine the job description and embarked on the search. We identified a first slate of UK-based candidates who met their requirements. At the close of the interviews, the client’s hiring team realized there were additional responsibilities they wanted to include.
The role was restructured and a second and third slate of candidates were reviewed. With each successive round, SMR worked with them to redefine the position. Based on the expanded role, we worked with them to re-level it, ensuring they attracted a qualified candidate pool.
Our client also realized the location of the position could be more flexible. The search was expanded to include candidates from the US and interviews began with the new framework in place.
SMR’s deep reach into the global security community enabled us to pivot as our client did. We were successful with the project, placing a diversity candidate in what turned out to be a completely different job in a completely different location than first imagined.
