A Little (Re)Organization is Good for Your Health
We love an organization challenge! Especially one that enables us to rely on a combination of all our client service offerings. These are the complex projects our senior advisors excel at, and a multi-year initiative for a global healthcare company required all our capabilities.
The Chief Security Officer’s goal was to have a subject matter expert review the security organization’s structure worldwide, deliver findings and make recommendations for aligning it with the enterprise. The project required deep comprehension of security programs and the ability to analyze the security practitioners currently in each of the roles to determine strengths and weaknesses. Succession planning was a core component of the undertaking as was acquiring top security talent to fill any gaps. Lastly, they required someone who could mentor team members around the world.
SMR chose one of our senior advisors who had extensive experience in top security jobs in the healthcare industry as the perfect match for this client. This jumpstarted the process as there was an immediate understanding of all facets of the project on the part of our advisor.
The security organization’s structure was thoroughly analyzed, and plans were developed to bring it into alignment with the overall enterprise. The security practitioners located around the globe met with our advisor in person or virtually. Based on their feedback and follow-on strategy sessions with the CSO, each of the roles in the organization were reviewed and refined.
Several team members were targeted as high potential for succession planning purposes and spent time in mentorship sessions with our advisor. Similarly, those that required additional assistance in their current roles benefited from the advice and experience shared by our advisor. Structural gaps that were identified meant SMR undertook recruitments to fill new roles both in North America and Latin America.
At the close of the project a series of re-interviews was conducted with many of the team members. The CSO wanted to obtain their feedback on the process. The result: a well-structured security organization in alignment with the corporation and a CSO with a sound succession plan in place. Oh – and very happy team members!
